In a distant war ravaged Earth only you can defeat the darkness. This is your legend. This is Destiny. Destiny is the new First Person Shooter by the makers of Halo, Bungie. Released on September 9, 2014 this shooter takes place in the very distant future. After the founding of a large white sphere on Mars, known as the traveler, humanity created a new golden age. Human life span tripled and colonies were made on Venus, Mars, Mercury and the moon. Unbeknownst to humanity the traveler had an enemy known only as the darkness. Finally, 300 years after humanity’s golden age’s beginning, the darkness found the traveler. A great war ensued across our solar system. The traveler was severely wounded and only had enough power to defend one last city on earth, the last city. Hope still existed for man as the traveler’s light still glowed. The very damaged traveler sent out little sprites, known as ghosts, to find corpses. These corpses were to be resurrected and to be turned into guardians the keepers of the traveler’s light, and the protectors of man. This is where the game officially starts.
Your ghost finds your corpse and the player are allowed to take charge of their character. The character is given choice to three unique classes: the warlock, the titan, and the hunter. The titan is the heavy hitter of the group based around going in loud and with guns up. The hunter is the sniper of the group based around hitting with critical headshots from a medium to long range. Lastly the warlock who is based around using magic and modern firearms to deceptively takes down any opposition. Each classification of guns works, as they should. This is also the first Activision published FPS in which quick scoping doesn’t work.
The campaign is very intense. The player will know that it’s a fight when they are outgunned and outnumbered, but still stand a chance. The player should also stay away from multiplayer, as it is a cluster of over powered weapons and abilities. Four types of enemies are currently in Destiny. The Hive, the Fallen, the Cabal, and the Vex. The Hive is more based around looking like they are undead and very old. The Fallen are four armed mercenaries and pirates. The Vex are mostly robots that you have to shoot in their power core, which is based in their abdomen, or they don’t go down. Lastly is the Cabal, the big space turtles of the group. Each race of enemy is unique on how they look and the weapons they carry, but the A.I. [Artificial Intelligence] in this specific game is not very smart. It either tries to swarm the player or overpower the player from a distance.
The armory that the player wields surely makes up for the brain dead retarded A.I. The first gun isn’t very powerful, but the weapons just get better. There are shotguns, hand cannons [revolvers], auto rifles, sniper rifles, scout rifles, LMGs [Light Machine Guns], rocket launchers, pulse rifles, and fusion rifles. All feel reliable except for scout rifles, which should never be used. The armor each class has is different and unique along with the cloth that each class wears. The Titans have the most armor then the Hunters have the next, and finally the Warlocks have the least amount of armor.
The mechanics in Destiny feel really similar to that of Halo very stiff, but responsive. The game runs well with no movement lag. The game looks good, but does suffer some texture pop in which isn’t a major problem. Destiny is a shooter that compares to that of Call of Duty, Battlefield, and even Halo. This game deserves an 8.5 out of 10, a shooter that any shooter fan should pick up. Become legend.
