The Harry Potter Alliance Club (HPA) will be having their first meeting on Monday, September 29th. Ms. Thieben, HPA’s leader, will be holding this meeting in her room on the third floor of the ‘55 building at 3:30 P.M. There will be the annual feast in honor of last year’s house cup winner, then the housing of their new members. They will be putting up posters around the school next week.
Ms. Thieben has always had a heart for the Harry Potter series. When she came across the Harry Potter Alliance, at their website http://thehpalliance.org/, she had decided Boone High School needed a group like this. Now she has been running the club for a little over a year. They add new things to work on at each meeting, one example being the Geek Marathon. The Geek marathon was started last year by Ms. Thieben and Gamers’ Club leader, Mr. Kramer. Last year they had donated all the proceeds to Child’s Play, an organization that provides things like books, video games, board games, and activities to children in long term care at hospitals.
HPA is an organization started to help with real world problems. Their mission is to create heroes out of ordinary fans of different fandoms. The HPA sets up fundraisers to raise money for different charity cases. They believe they have the power of love on their side to help them solve these issues. Since 2005 they’ve engaged millions through their work for equality, human rights and literacy.
The Harry Potter Alliance is meant for people who love to help others, but have fun while doing it. If you wish to find out more about this organization you can go to the meeting on the 29th of September.
