Harry Potter Alliance (HPA) held a meeting on Friday November 14th from four to five P.M. They discussed their annual fundraiser the “Geek Marathon” and made homemade wands. Students were given a pledge form at the meeting for raising money in the Geek Marathon. They would like for everyone to try and aim at raising at least 10 dollars.
The Geek Marathon is a fundraiser put on by Ms. Thieben, HPA’s director, and Mr. Kramer, the Gamers’ Club’s director. They raise money by having students go out and get pledges from friends and family. The money will be going to a foundation called Child’s Play that raises money to give children in hospitals toys and books. “It’s perfect, because they fit both of our groups’ goals,” said Ms. Thieben.
At the Geek Marathon students can spend a total of six hours “geeking out.” They will be holding a cosplay contest with a prize for the winner. The students can even take part in Boone High School’s own “Triwizard Tournament.” In the school gym the teens will be taking part in a “geeky” craft, trivia, a star wars dance off, and “muggle quidditch.”
Anyone who still wishes to take part in the “Geek Marathon” may talk to Ms. Thieben or Mr. Kramer in their rooms on the third floor of the “old building.”
