The Caucuses were just last week and the winner of the caucus for the republican side was Ted Cruz, on the democratic side it was Hillary Clinton. Why should students care about the caucus or even politics for that matter? The politicians this year have been trying to get the younger generation into voting.
The caucus says that around 84% of people under the age 30 would vote for Bernie Sanders, and 26% for Ted Cruz. Bernie has been talking about getting rid of college tuition, which has a lot of younger people interested in him. It was a surprise to a lot of people that Ted Cruz got the vote for the people under 30 and not Donald Trump.
People believe that Donald Trump lost a lot of votes because he didn’t attend the debate. For Trump only won the 65 and older age, receiving 27% of their vote. People like Trump because he is angry, he shows the anger they feel, that is one reason that people like Trump.
Students should care about the caucus and politics because that is what their future is going to be. Especially since some high school students are actually going to be able to vote for president in November of 2016. Marco Rubio won a lot of the counties that have university’s in them or colleges, winning the college graduates vote at 27%.
Hillary Clinton is talking about families and how she can help them. That appeals to young people because they all believe in having the families that they will have someday and want to be able to have them grow up being prepared for life and be financially safe. She is hitting at that to gain some younger people's vote.
