As Winter Formal is only a few weeks away, students are not the only ones planning for the big day. Lots of teachers are also preparing for the dance. Many students do not realize how much work goes into making dances a success, and this year there will be a new teacher in charge of Winter Formal.
History teacher Alicen Morley has stepped up to help plan the dance. One of the things that will change this year is that the dance will not be held in the gym. Since we now have a new, large commons area the school wants to move the dance in there instead of the gym. During Homecoming, students were very upset with this idea but Morley said, “I know when I first told some students they were upset but it didn’t take long for them to start throwing out ideas that we could do now that it will be in the commons.”
Student Council is helping Morley come up with ideas to help make the dance a success, so if any students have good ideas for the dance Morley said to talk to someone in student council so they can pass the idea on.
The other big change that was made by many of the staff who helped plan the dance was that the coronation of the king and queen will be on the night of the dance instead of the Friday before. Having coronation the Friday before takes time during school that could be used for learning, because the week before is a testing week. Having the coronation the night of the dance will also help the parents who would like to attend coronation so they do not have to take time off work. The coronation will be from 8:00 to 9:00, and the dance will be from 9:00 to 12:00.
