On April 3rd and 4th, Family, Career, Community, Leaders of America (FCCLA) star event participants went to the state FCCLA conference. This year, Boone had three different groups go. Groups were in all different categories, including freshmen Anna Olson and Ellen Castle who competed in Illustrated Talk, sophomores Emily Braun and Gabie Osborn who competed in the Chapter Service display project and junior Tiffany Braun who competed in the Job Interview category.
The FCCLA conference started off with competitions on Monday the 3rd, from 9am to 3pm. After students competed in their category, students were allowed to go watch others present in their categories or go to other break out sessions to meet other competitors and have fun. Later on, after all the star events were finished, the two voting delegates from each chapter went to a meeting about voting to change some of the wording in the state rules. Boone’s voting delegates were Osborn and Emily Braun. Then students were let out for dinner and at 8pm all students went to back to the conference room to hear the speeches of those competing for state officers.
The next morning the two voting delegates, Osborn and Emily Braun, went to vote for the state candidates directly after breakfast. Then there were more optional break out sessions, so people could pick which one or ones they wanted to attend. Then the closing ceremonies started where all students who competed in the star events got to know how they did. The first group announced from the three Boone competed in was the Chapter Service project display. Osborn and Emily Braun not only received a gold, but were the top scoring group in their category, and qualified for Nationals. Then, Olson and Castle received a silver award. Finally, it was Job Interview and Tiffany Braun also received a gold and qualified for Nationals.
After Tiffany Braun found out she made Nationals she had this to say, “Ever since I found out about STAR events I have wanted to go to nationals. I am beyond happy that I get to share this experience with Emily Braun and Gabie Osborn, and I can’t wait to see how it goes. I as well as everybody else that came to state am very happy that our advisor, Laura Beaver, has allowed us to experience this and for all they help and hours she put into us when working on our projects. I definitely don’t think any of us could have made it to nationals without her.”
This year Nationals will be held in San Diego, California from July 3rd to the 7th. FCCLA will be accepting all donations to help pay for the trip.
