Recently a couple of rumors about next year's homecoming festivities and dances have surfaced. Things such as Winter Formal dance and Powderpuff have been rumored to be canceled next year.
A Boone TV staff member was able to catch Boone High School’s Principal Kris Byam and sit down with him to speak about all of these topics.
“We will wait until after the Homecoming dance to evaluate what the Booster Club wants to do,” said Byam talking about next year’s Powderpuff game. Byam, elaborated by saying, “Boone’s athletics all have legal liabilities. But the one thing that doesn’t fall under that branch is Powderpuff. Powderpuff is hosted by the Boone Booster Club, who does not have a liability claim. If something were to happen, say a division one athlete gets hurt, and loses their scholarship, the Booster Club can’t do anything about that.”
On the other side of things, if the game does get cancelled, Byam has a plan to not just completely take out the fun games and other things. Byam said, “If Powderpuff does end up getting cancelled, I want to do like what Ankeny does. It’s called “Under the Lights”. Basically it’s a night full of games and other stuff.”
Homecoming was also a point of interest. Rumors started spreading that the student body would have to wear jeans and a nice shirt, or dress more casually than now. That rumor was also shot down very fast.
The last thing that was brought up was the annual Winter Formal dance. “Student involvement is the biggest thing, if this dance is really popular, we will have it. But I don’t want to bring in staff if only 50 people are going to come,” said Byam. With that being said, there will still be a Winter Formal dance next year.
With regard to these and future rumors Byam stated, “Stop with the rumors, come talk to me. That is how the post game party started. Students wanted something to do after the games. Don’t be shy, come talk to me about this stuff.”
