The winter formal dance has been a debated subject after it was held on Saturday, February 6th. Some people didn’t mind the dance being in the commons, while others liked it better being in the gym. The DJ on the other hand, is also a subject widely discussed. Most people were not happy with the DJ at all, while others were somewhat okay with him.
The DJ is one of the most important factors if the dance turns out to be good or not. The music is what makes people dance, and it really makes the whole atmosphere. While some people say that the atmosphere becomes what you make it to be, which is true, the songs played are equally as important as students attitude. In this situation, most of the songs played were songs that were popular years ago, and even though students requested songs, most of them weren’t played. Sure, playing some older songs that everyone knows is okay, but most students want to listen to the songs that are popular at the moment.
Junior Lane Losh disagreed with the popular opinion and liked everything about the dance including the DJ, “He played popular hits that really got the legs going.”
Another thing that students missed besides good songs was the regular line dances; ‘Cupid shuffle” and “Cha cha slide”.
A suggestion to music at future dances is that the DJ plays more songs that are on the hit lists at the time of when the dance is held and is open for song suggestions. Another suggestion is that a poll could be made on twitter for example, where students could vote for the songs they would like and a list could be made and given to the DJ. Of course it is hard to please everyone, and there will always be people that aren’t happy with the songs played. But playing popular songs will make the chances higher that students enjoy the music.
