Toreador diving is once again making an appearance at the State Diving Meet this year. Senior Haiden Jennings and Junior Kennedey Bass both had state-worthy performances last week at the Regional meet, taking champion and runner-up spots.
For Jennings, this isn’t her first rodeo. She’s appeared at State multiple times before, and had lots of success, but something’s missing. She’s never taken home a title. When asked how she’s preparing for the meet, she said, “Going to practice every day, doing pike ups at home, and keeping my mind confident.” Jennings also noted that success is earned, not given. She’s been at this since a young age, and credits a majority of her success to her father, Barry. “My dad has been the one to push me where I am. Telling me everyday to act like it’s your last practice, and last meet. And now this State meet is my last.”
Junior Kennedey Bass also has experience at the State level. She’s had an outstanding 2014 campaign and hopes that she can perform at that level again this weekend. “I will be practicing all of my dives over and over again to prepare for State on Friday,” said Bass.
We’ve seen both of these talented divers trade victories and go back and forth all season. It’s hard to tell who is going to come out on top this time, but they will definitely be representing Boone High in a positive way.
The State meet will be held at the Marshalltown YMCA this Friday, November 7th.
