Boone Toreador volleyball team falls to the Charles City Comets, Tuesday night, November 4th. The comets swept over the Toreadors in three sets, qualifying them for state.
The Toreador’s first set started off a little shaky. The comets gained a few points over Boone early on. Boone showed some fight tieing the comets later on. Charles City and Boone fought back and forth between each point. Charles City then pulled ahead in the final points and won 25-21. The second match of the night continued much like the first. The Comets pulled ahead earlier in the match. Boone have trouble stringing together a few points and lost to the Comets 25-18.
The Toreadors came out strong in the third match of the night. Boone gained an early lead of a few points again the Comets. The Comets fought back tying the Toreadors later on. Charles City then gained a slight lead over Boone later on. Boone continued to fight with the Comets, minimizing their lead to the Comets, 25-23, ending the 2014 volleyball season.
Boone may not have ended the way they hoped, but they had a tremendous year. The final record was 33-7. As four of their losses were against teams ranked in the top 15 in the state of Iowa. Senior Carrie Overland says, “It’s really hard to know that I’ll never play again as a Toreador but I wouldn’t have wanted to end my season any other way.”
