Boone Football kicks off the season 0-2. After the Toreador loss to Ballard August 29 they were still looking for their first win of the season. The Gilbert Tigers came to Geoppinger Field to play the Toreadors August 5. The Tigers had a successful running and passing game with a school record of 612 yard. Boone fell to Gilbert 52-21. Boone is still searching for their first win of the season.
Early off in the first quarter Gilbert’s quarterback, Jared Gescheidler, ran for two touchdowns. Both being quarterback sneaks. At the end of the first quarter, Gilbert lead 14-0. The Tiger’s were very successful with their running game and tacked on another four touchdowns in the second quarter. Senior wide receiver Wyatt Rhoads ran in for the fourth touchdown, ending the first half.
Coming out of the locker room the Toreadors started stronger than the first half. Early off sophomore quarterback Tanner Schminke ran through the line for a 59 yard quarterback sneak which lead to Jacob Johnson’s catch and run for the touchdown, putting the Toreadors on the board. Later in the third quarter Senior linebacker Ashton Clemons took the ball back from the Tigers with an interception. With four minutes and seven seconds left in the third quarter, the Boone’s offense charged down the field and added another seven points by a catch in the endzone by Clemons. With little time left in the third quarter Junior safety Drew Wilber intercepted the ball for the second time in two games.
Thirty seconds into the fourth quarter Rhoads ran in for another touchdown, making it 44-14. With six minutes and fifty-eight seconds left in the fourth game Tigers running back Dvorak Cody ran in for their last touchdown. The Toreadors quickly came back with a touchdown by Danny Anderson. In the end the Tigers ended up on top with the score of 52-21
