The Boone Toreadors defeated the Tigers of ADM in three short matches Thursday, September 18th. The Toreadors took control in all three matches to make for a quick win over the Tigers.
The first match for Boone did not start the way they hoped. ADM gained a quick lead. Boone fell behind 20-13. The Toreadors then rallied together to comeback 20-22. They then tied, 22-22. The Toreadors won 25-23 with the comeback. Senior Serena Sandvig said, “We always focused on the future, not the past.” This was one key component for Boone’s comeback in the first match.
The second match the Toreadors came out strong. They gained an early lead of 6-0. Boone held a steady lead throughout the match, pulling out another win of 25-16. During the third match ADM gained a few points early on. The Tigers lead 11-7. Boone came back, once again, to tie 11-11. From there on Boone took over and won 25-19.
Senior Mariah McPartland had a huge night for the Toreadors with nineteen kills. Also, Sandvig had a big night with fourteen kills. “We kept our hitting errors down, with a season low. Our passing average was also a season best,” said Sandvig in response to what some key components in the game were. Senior Bailey Schminke, responds to the same question stating, “We had nothing to lose, so we just went for it.” Senior Carrie Overland also added, “One of the key components for us to be successful was we had a lot of energy the entire game, and stayed relaxed throughout every match.”
The Toreadors next game will be at 9:00 AM this Saturday, September 20th for the Varsity Invitational at Forest City High School. The teams competing will be Algona, Clarion-Goldfield, Clear Lake, Lake Mills, Spencer, Spirit Lake, St. Ansgar, Webster CIty, and Forest City.
