Coming off an 0-4 start to the season Boone needed to turn their season around for a chance at the playoffs. On Friday, September 26 the 0-4 Toreadors played the 3-1 Dallas Center Grimes Mustangs. Mustangs started the season with a commanding 3-1 start to get them back to the playoffs, which meant running through Boone, and thats what they did. The Mustangs left Boone one step closer to the playoffs with a final score of 45-27.
On Dallas Center Grimes first drive they ran and passed down the field to get them into the 20. The Toreador defense stood up and was resilient and held them to just a field goal. Boone answered back with a 30 yard pass from Sophomore qaurter back Tanner Schminke to Senior wide receiver Jake Johnson who leaped into the endzone to get them their first lead of the game. Thmustang line ran through and blocked the field goal to give the Toreadors only six points.Dallas Center Grimes would come back out and put two more touchdowns on the board ending the first quarter.
With Boone down by 11 points they needed to make something happen. The Toreadors rushed down the field, capped by a terrific catch by Junior wide receiver Daniel Anderson. Boone showed some fight, but DCG was too strong on offense. Once again they boosted up the score by two touchdowns making it 31-13.
On the first drive of the second half Boone fumbled the ball and DCG’s picked it up to run it back for their fifth touchdown of the night which lead to 14 unanswered points. The Toreadors showed some fight in the end but wasn't enough. Boone is still seeking their first win of the season as they fall 0-5.
