With the Kate Shelley Fieldhouse, a whole lot of hot dogs, and a winning streak on the line, the Boone Toreadors boys basketball team took to the floor on Friday, January 15. This was a must win game for Baute and the rest of the bunch, against the fast paced offense of the Perry Bluejays. The game decided whether they were third or dropped down to fifth in the conference.
The ‘Dors had yet another slow start offensively, quickly falling to 5-0, with all five points coming from senior Shammond Ivory. But after that start, they went on a 7-0 run. They ended the first quarter leading 13-9.
Early in the second quarter, junior Lane Losh quickly got to the charity stripe after a dish from sophomore John Herrick. After knocking down both of the shots, the ‘Dors returned on defense and got a stop. Junior Tanner Schminke quickly pushed the ball in transition to get and easy lay in. Boone headed into halftime with a 36-17 lead.
After giving up 16 points in the third quarter, the Toreadors found themselves with a 22 point lead going into the fourth, the score was 55-33.
After back and forth scoring, the lead hadn’t changed much. With about 5:50 left in the game, Herrick got a breakaway dunk. But still the scoring was even. The final score was 77-58. The Perry Bluejays were averaging 70+ points, and following a game where they scored 87, and the Toreador defense held them to only 58.
The Toreadors left Kate Shelley Fieldhouse with a record of 5-6.
