On Thursday, September 3, Boone’s Cross Country team traveled to Ames for their second meet of the season at the ISU course. Boone Girls got a total score of 239, while boys got the total of 342.
The Boone girls varsity team includes Diana Slight, LeAnn Pena, Sarah Heiller, Ny Kouk, Brigitte Alexander, Hannah Eppert, and Ellen Castle. Their shortest time was ran by Diana Slight, coming in 16th with the time of 19:48.The Boone boys varsity team includes Derek Hahn, Max Hyatt, Brant Phillips, Noah Lee, Ethan Patterson, Cody Frame, and Jimmy Boustead. Their shortest time was ran by Derek Hahn, coming in 55th with the time of 17:57.57.
Girls varsity runner, Hannah Eppert said, “It was probably one of our hottest meets that we've had. It was also humid and our coach expected us to drink three full water bottles before we ran because he didn’t want any of us to pass out or get dehydrated during our race.” She also made some comments about the course, “The course was not as bad as most people had told me. The first mile was mostly a straight away with three hills that weren't too terrible. The last two miles or so was mostly just doing the first mile again with a little extra to make it longer. Overall the course was better than what we've had to do.”
Boys varsity runner, Jimmy Boustead, informed us that this was not the usual course for the Ames meet. He stated that, “It was a decent course, but it wasn’t the usual course we have to run in Ames. The usual course was too muddy so we could run it so all the bad parts were cut out of the race making it a lot better.” He also told us that, “Because of the heat the JV runners had to run a 4k instead of a 5k.”
The next time Boone Cross Country will be running, they’ll be in Marshalltown on Thursday, September 10.
