In the first quarter, both teams exchanged punts as they struggled to get their offenses going. Junior John Herrick is this year’s punter and he had a solid debut as he averaged 33 yards per punt and had a 41 yard boot in the game. Towards the end of the first quarter Creston mounted a drive and with 18 seconds left quarterback Chase Shiltz scampered for an 18 yard touchdown to put Creston up 6-0. Boone blocked the PAT to keep the score where it was.
In the second quarter, the main play was a Creston punt that backed Boone up to their own five yard line. After losing 2 yards on first and second down, Boone was backed up to the three yard line. The pressure came quickly from Creston and they forced a fumble in the endzone recovered for a touchdown. After scoring the two-point conversion, the halftime score was 14-0 in favor of the Panthers.
The second half started out with the Toreadors in possession of the football. A first down was gained on the drive, but once again the offense never really gained traction and was forced to punt. The ball went back and forth a few times before Creston struck again with a 35 yard passing touchdown to junior Garrett Dahl. Boone later mounted a drive and threatened in Creston territory, but once again failed to punch it in the endzone for a touchdown.
In the fourth quarter, the Toreadors finally sparked their offense with a 25 yard touchdown pass to junior Mason Hulse to make the score 28-7. Boone later recovered a fumble, but time wasn’t on their side as the game ended with a final score of 28-7.
Boone comes home to Geoppinger Field this Friday as they square off with the Bondurant-Farrar Bluejays. Kickoff is at 7:30.
