They’ve also undergone a change offensively in terms of their game plan. Last year they enjoyed large amounts of success running the option offense, ranking 6th in 3A in rushing yards. However, Coach Mark Camenisch decided that a spread offense would be more suitable for his team this year. The Toreadors have attempted more passes this year than they did the entire last season.
Last game, Senior Ashton Clemons went down in the third quarter with what appeared to be a knee issue. He is a game time decision this week against Perry. The defense has also been a weak point this year for Boone. They’ve given up 140 total points in their first three games compared to 169 all of last season. With Clemons’ injury, some young players are going to have to step up and make an impact on the defensive side of the ball.
The Toreadors will travel to Perry this Friday, September 19th in search of their first victory. Perry is led by Senior standout Will Whiton, who has drawn interest from many division 1 programs around the country. Boone has been prepping for them all week and they should be ready. Kick off is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
