The Boone Girls Basketball team traveled to Marshalltown on Tuesday, December 15th for a game against the winless Bobcats. Boone jumped out to a 22-6 lead in the 1st quarter behind excellent defense, which led to points on the other end. However, Marshalltown did respond, winning the 2nd quarter 13-6. The Toreador girls came out of the locker room strong and built upon their lead throughout the second half, and earned a 57-36 victory.
Sophomore Claire Sandvig led all scorers with a 23 point performance, along with 14 rebounds. Following her was another sophomore Caitlynne Shadle. Shadle poured in 11 points and also had 4 steals.
Sandvig has shown that she can be a force at times, scoring 22 against Carlisle the previous week. She currently leads the team in points per game, as well as rebounds.
“I think it’s really important for underclassmen like Caitlynne and Claire to step up and make an impact for us. They do a great job,” junior Dianna Slight says.
“We came out with great energy and were able to play hard defense all game long. We extended our winning streak to three games and hopefully we can carry this momentum into Christmas break,” says junior Laura Anderson.
The Boone Girls will play a road game against Bondurant-Farrar on Friday, December 18th.
