On October 10th, the Boone volleyball team headed to Mason City for their fifth invitational of the season. They were coming off of tough losses from Gilbert and Greene County at the Jefferson meet.
The Toreadors started their invitational playing the (12-9) Central Springs Panthers. The first set was a close 20-22 with the Toreador’s coming up just short in the end, however they bounced back in the second set, winning with a score of 21-14. The momentum of the second set didn’t seem to be found in the third as they lost 15-7.
After the loss to the Panthers, the Toreadors took on the Mohawks (8-22) of Mason City. Mason City had home court advantage but still lost the first set 21-17. The next two sets appeared to be where the Mohawks took advantage of their home court as they won the second set 20-22 and the third 17-15.
The Dors didn’t get a break as they went on to face the (21-2) Humboldt Wildcats. The Dors failed to win a set against the powerhouse. The Toreadors lost the two sets 21-8 and 17-21.
Senior Stefanie Davis had this to say about the Invitational: “The Invitational was definitely a tough tournament. Humboldt was (21-2) when we faced them. They were a lot more aggressive than us. Mason City’s record didn’t show but they are stuck in a good conference such as Ankeny, Urbandale, et cetera. They were all very good teams.”
