The boys basketball team is looking to get back on track after a close defeat at the hands of Dallas Center-Grimes. They have a record of 4-3 in the Raccoon River Conference and are currently placed in 3rd. In the first matchup between these 2 teams, Ballard took off on a run after halftime and won by a score of 57-43. Senior swingman Jaden Moody filled up the box score with 21 points and 11 rebounds. His running mate, senior Kolby Jensen, scored 12 points, shooting 3-7 from the field. The duo were the only Bombers in double figures.
Boone’s achilles heel this season has been rebounding. They have given up a staggering 30 offensive rebounds in their last 2 contests. The main issue with Boone’s rebounding is their desire for the basketball. The other teams are craving possession much more than the Toreadors. Boone’s leading rebounder is sophomore John Herrick at 4.1 rebounds per game. Ballard is sure to crash the glass and it is very important that the Toreadors establish contact and secure the basketball.
Offensively, Boone needs to avoid a slow start. In the majority of games this year, the opposing team has gotten out to a 5-0 start or better. Boone needs to get the first basket and set the tone for the rest of the contest. Boone has gotten better in the turnover department, but valuing the ball is still a major key for the Toreadors. The Toreadors scored a season low 43 points in their last meeting against Ballard. Moving the ball from one side to another will fuel Boone’s offense and the paint will open up for driver's senior Danny Anderson and junior Tanner Schminke. Like every game, Boone must heat up the nets and maintain a steady scoring output if they want to get the W.
Make the drive to Ballard High School and support the Boone boys basketball team as they battle with the Bombers on January 22nd at 7:30 P.M.
