The ‘Dors started off slow early as the Cardinals jumped out to an early 14-3 lead. Boone came back and won a few matches and brought the score back to 14-13.
After bringing the team score within reach, the numbers game proved to be fatal for the Toreadors. Boone had to forfeit 5 matches because wrestlers didn’t make weight or were injured.
Some highlights on the night came from junior Mason Hulse. He won his match by way of technical fall with a final score of 17-1. Another came from senior Jacob Melton who won his match by pin in the first 9 seconds of the match. The last notable match of the night came from sophomore Norbert Riyazimana. Riyazimana came out flat and allowed his opponent to get to a 4-2 lead. He fought back to make the score 6-4 in favor of Newton. After a hard fought few minutes the final bell rang and Riyazimana fell short and lost by way of decision, the final score being 8-4.
The wrestling team is back in action tonight at home. The will go to battle against Carlisle and Bondurant. The meet starts at 5:30 pm in the Boone High gym.
