It has been over a month since the Toreador volleyball team rallied to defeat Adel Desoto Minburn in front of a raucous home crowd. It was a win that they hoped would spark much more success to come. Since then, they have only been able to pick up three wins, with one coming this past Tuesday on the road against the Ballard Bombers. Boone dominated from start to finish and won the match 3-0.
Saturday, October 3rd, they will travel to Newton for a Varsity invitational. Schools on hand at the Invitational include Des Moines North, Harlan, and Pella, among others.
More than half the season is gone for the Toreadors, but many statements are left to be made.
“We’ve had a lot of ups and downs in the season so far, but we’ve got a lot of talented players and I think that we’ll have success in the rest of the season,” says Senior Carlie Romig.
Sophomore Claire Sandvig had some big shoes to fill this year, after team leader Mariah McPartland departed to play collegiately. She is currently leading the squad with 63 kills this season. Another Sophomore, Jessica Lewis, has also played a large role for Boone. Lewis is boasting a 92 percent serve efficiency.
The Boone volleyball team’s next home match is on Tuesday, October 13th against Raccoon River Conference foe Carlisle.
