As Boone High Students began to fill the student section on Tuesday, December 2nd, the Varsity Boys Basketball team got ready to take on the Newton Cardinals for their first game of the season.
In the first quarter the Toreadors started to quickly fall behind on offense, missing several chances to score. Not being able to score and keep control of the ball quickly became a problem when they were down by 8 in just minutes. However, this didn’t stop the Toreadors because they began fighting back, ending the quarter with a score of 7 to 15.
As the second quarter began, the Toreadors continued to fight back, making basket after basket, taking it one at a time. The boys slowed down the Cardinal's offensive game just enough to bring the score to 22 to 29.
In the third quarter the Cardinals come back full force and the Toreadors can not put a stop to the Cardinal’s continuous scoring. The Toreadors kept battling, but it just wasn’t enough ending the third quarter 40 to 51.
In the final quarter the Toreadors continued battling and making baskets, but it just was not enough, the Cardinals kept playing full force continuing to outscore us and they ended up beating Boone with a score of 55 to 75.
Lance Losh said, “I think the first game went pretty good regardless of the score. We had guys who had never played varsity before so it was important for us to get some game experience.”
