The boy’s basketball team suffered a crushing loss at the hands of the Newton Cardinals Tuesday night. Head Coach, Justin Baute, looks to get off on the right foot with a win against Ballard Friday night. Boone was torched from the three point line on Tuesday and needs to improve significantly on defense if they stand a chance against the high powered Bomber offense. Ballard attempted 33 three point field goals in their Tuesday loss to Norwalk and considering defending the three ball was Boone’s achilles heel against Newton, the Baute Bunch has to improve their defense.
Ballard is led by seniors Jaden Moody and Kolby Jensen. Moody attempted 12 three pointers in their first game and could really hurt the Toreadors from deep. Jensen only attempted 5 shots, but he played a crucial role last season and he is sure to have an impact on the game. Moody and Junior Kade Wilson pulled down 7 rebounds apiece and will look to harass Boone on the boards. Ballard will spread the floor with five guys on the perimeter and look to penetrate gaps. The key for Ballard is to draw the help defense and find open shooters.
Boone is led by Junior sharpshooter Ethan Lewis and Senior energizer Danny Anderson. Lewis put up 18 points and was money for most of the game. Anderson motivated Boone with his defensive stature and effort. Sophomore standout John Herrick struggled with foul trouble and was sidelined for the majority of the first half. Boone’s bench headed by Trevor Van Pelt gave the ‘Dors a good spark in segments of the first half. Boone needs to significantly improve their three point defense and their rebounding. Ethan Lewis led Boone in rebounding. The big men need to step up if Boone stands a chance.
Boone hosts Ballard Friday night, December 4, at 7:30 pm in the Kate Shelley Fieldhouse.
