On Tuesday, October 13th, the boys and girls Cross Country team competed on their home territory. The team ran on home ground for the last time in the 2015 season. With the end of their season looming around the corner, both teams put it all on the line and ran a strong race to the finish line. Junior Diana Slight was at odds running head to head with Ballard and Carlisle. She crossed the finish line with a final time of 20:07, placing at fifth place. The time was an all time personal record for Slight.
Hannah Eppert and Ellen Castle joined Slight in celebrating new records when they each ran their way to new personal records. Eppert ended the race with a time of 21:31, placing at 15th place. Castle finished right on Eppert’s heels with a time of 21:33, placing at 16th place. Seniors Sarah Heiller and LeAnn Pena also had a victory at their last home meet of their Cross Country career, both achieving personal bests for times. Heiller ran a time of 23:29 and placed at 33rd, Pena finished at 23:42. The entire girls varsity team ran their personal bests, bringing Boone to place at fourth for the Conference, just 11 points off of placing in the top three.
Senior Derek Hahn ended his race with a time of 17.07, cutting nearly a whole minute from his last race at Fort Dodge. Coach John Bachman says, “I was very pleased and proud of how well the boys ran at the conference meet. We want to run our best at conference and the district meets and that is what they did last night.“ Max Hyatt ran strong and finished with a time of 18.16, ending at 29th place.
As the season comes to an end, the team continues to work hard and strive for improvement. Coach Bachman says, “We have a great core of young runners this year and with a lot of hard work in the off season, I believe that they will be very competitive next year. “ The Raccoon River Conference meet on October 13th turned out to be a good meet for the Toreadors, giving them confidence as they advance to compete in their district meet on Thursday, October 15th. Good luck Toreadors!
