One of Boone’s finest athletes has been rapidly shaving time off of his already incredible 100 and 200 meter dash. Senior Eli Hicks, Boone High’s Track star, just recently committed to the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) to further his education and further his track career.
Hicks chose to run at UNI over Wichita State and Xavier. “I picked UNI because they have good coaches, it is close to home but not too close, it’s great environment there and I'm friends with other guys going there to run,” said Hicks.
The coaches weren’t the only thing Hicks liked about Northern Iowa. “The main reason I’m attending is because they have an incredible track program and they also have a fantastic business program,” finished Hicks.
Hicks runs the 100 meter dash and 200 meter dash. For his 100, he runs a 10.85 seconds and is fifth in the state and is second in 3A. For his 200 split, he runs a 21.55 seconds and finds himself at second in the state. He is sitting atop the podium for the best time in 3A for his 200.
He holds the record to close to 20 meet records, and runs the 9th fastest 200 time in history in the state of Iowa.
Hicks will be running in the Drake relays on Friday, April 29. Come out and support the Boone Senior as he begins his journey to the state championship.
