PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: The date for the fall cheerleading tryouts has been announced!
Fall cheerleading tryouts will be taking place in the Boone High School gym on Wednesday, May 4th at 1:30pm. These tryouts are for students in grades 7th through 11th grade for the upcoming fall season.
Participating students are advised to wear a plain t-shirt and solid colored shorts to tryout.
Students should come ready to learn cheers and practice for the actual tryout section of the session. The tryouts will start with the participating 11th graders and go in reverse order, ending with the 7th graders.
Spots will be filled on the 8th grade, Freshman, Junior Varsity, and Varsity squads.
All four squads start preparation for the next season in the summer by attending cheerleading camp, where they work on jumps, clean movements, and tumbling. The cheerleaders are also taught new cheers and stunts. Varsity squad members go in extra days to the camp to start learning choreography for their state routine which they perform in November.
However, last season was the last season for five Boone High seniors. Varsity cheerleaders Kennedey Bass, Erin Kinne, Payton Lyons, Claire Moline, and Alexis Stensland have all handed in their pom poms for the last time of their high school career. On a good note, Bass has recently been accepted for a tryout for the Iowa Cheer Squad and is in hopes of achieving a spot on the squad.
After the end of the winter cheer season in late February, returning and new cheerleaders are waiting in suspense to step on the red track once again and cheer on ‘Dors in their upcoming football season.
