Boone Toreador girls and boys basketball will play a varsity doubleheader against the Grinnell Tigers on Tuesday, December 13th.
The Boone Boys basketball team’s six game homestand isn’t going exactly how they planned. The ‘Dors have lost their last two contests, and their overall record sits at 1-3.
The usually hot shooting Toreadors have been off from deep as of late. In their last two losses, they have shot just 26% from three point range (10-38). In terms of overall field goal percentage, they sit at just 39% (34-86).
Seniors Ethan Lewis and Gabe Krafcisin are currently the leading scorers this season. Lewis is averaging 13.3 points per game, and Krafcisin is scoring 12.5 points per game.
Junior John Herrick missed some early season action due to a foot injury suffered during football season, but made a large impact in the loss against Norwalk. He is expected to be in the starting lineup against the Grinnell Tigers.
On the girls side, Boone has been dominant and currently holds a record of 5-0. They are ranked #6 in Class 3A. They will face a tough test, as the Grinnell girls are ranked #5.
Junior Claire Sandvig leads the team in points, rebounds, and blocked shots. She has been an interior anchor for their early season success. Junior Caitlynne Shadle also plays a factor as she is averaging 9.6 points per game.
Sophomore Mady Danner has also been a force on the offensive end, as she is the second leading scorer for the Toreadors at 9.8 points per game.
A top 10 ranked girls matchup, as well as the boys team trying to get in the win column should make for a very competitive and rowdy night in the Kate Shelley Fieldhouse.
