Tuesday night the girls headed to Pella for a chance to make it to the state tournament for the first time since 1989. The girls headed into the game with the record of 18-4 and were ranked 13th in the class 4A. Pella had also been impressive as they entered with the record of 20-2 and were ranked eighth in 4A.
The first half was a back and forth battle. Pella was the first to put up points. Boone failed to score at the beginning of the game but then started to get it going. Toward the end of the first quarter both teams struggled to get going. At the end of the first quarter Pella was ahead 13-10. At the start of the second quarter Boone scored only three points until three minutes were left in the half. The score at the end of the half was 26-18 Pella Lady Dutch.
The second half seemed to be lopsided as Pella’s offense and defense seemed to be out working the ‘Dors. Boone’s defense gave up multiple offensive rebounds in the second half that basically kept them behind. Boone’s offense seemed to be broken at the time as they scored only eight points in the third quarter. The score at the end of the third quarter was 38-26 Pella.
Boone had once last chance to make a comeback but, they couldn’t hold off the Dutch’s rebounding, defense, and attacking offense. Boone’s offense just couldn’t make anything as they only scored five points in the fourth. Their defense was slacking as they allowed another 12 point quarter. The final score of the game was 50-31. Sophomore Caitlynne Shadle led the team with 12 points.
