On Saturday, January 16th, the Boone swimmers had a meet at Southeast Polk High School. The teams that competed were Cedar Rapids Kennedy, Des Moines East, Des Moines Hoover, Grinnell, Indianola, Waukee vs Southeast Polk. The Toreadors swam into 3rd place with an overall record of 23-5.
“I’m pleased with the results. Coming in third is very good against Waukee and Cedar Rapids Kennedy, which are a few of the best teams in the state.” Says senior swimmer Dakota Sherry about the meet.
The Toreadors placed 6th in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:50.81, 3rd in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:33.96, and 3rd in the 400 yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:31.71.
Swimming coach Chris Mann is also happy with the results and says; “This meet is usually one we have circled on our calendar as one we use for a tune up meet for the end of season championships. I tried to get guys in events as close to the potential conference lineup as possible to try and see how they would perform. Lots of big teams at this meet meant for a lot of close races. Close races always provide everyone with some pretty great times. Throughout the day we had several guys step into some leading roles; Derek had a great second place in the 500 and he tied his best time. Nick had a couple really good nail-biter swims in the 50 and 100. He got out-touched by a hair in each race. We are looking forward to our last couple of dual meets so we can head into the conference championship on the 30th with some momentum.”
Come watch the boys swim their next meet tonight, January 21st at Southeast Polk High School.
