After falling short of his ultimate goal last year as a freshman, sophomore Mason Hulse has been hitting the mats hard.
Last year in late February, Hulse came up short of state by just one spot, placing third in his district bracket. He finished off his season with 26 wins and 16 losses. This year Hulse is 36-4 and ranked 8th in the state for the 138 pound weight class in 3A.
Hulse’s most recent accomplishment would be being crowned as the Raccoon River Conference champion as a Sophomore. On Saturday, January 30th, he wrestled himself into a title shot.
“On the bus ride down to Perry I kept taking mental reps about winning the conference title in my head. When I finally made it to the championship match, I had a good feeling about it because I felt that my coach had prepared me to be successful,” said Hulse when asked about the conference meet.
Hulse’s next meet is a big one. He will be in Fort Dodge next Saturday the 13 of February as he looks to take it to the top and head to the state meet to wrestle with the best of them. Come out to Fort Dodge to support Mason Hulse and the rest of the Boone Toreador Wrestling team as they look to take the district meet by storm.
