Monday, November 16th, was the first official day of practice for the Boone High Winter Cheerleaders. Both basketball and wrestling cheerleaders met to start cracking down on the upcoming season and have started preparing for games and meets.
Gabriela Fuentes, a junior on the varsity wrestling squad, told us that, “We work hard but we also have a lot of fun.” The varsity wrestling squad includes Joaquin Brannan, Macie Camenish, Gabriela Fuentes, Claire Moline, Alexis Stensland, and Cameryn Wigert. The JV wrestling squad involves Allysan Bushore, Noelle Hass, Taylor Irwin, Trinity Lumley, Trinity Mitchell, and Mackenzie Parrish. When asked what she’s most excited for this season, Fuentes said, “I really like my squad and I’m excited to see how things end up for the wrestlers.”
On the other side of the spectrum are the varsity and JV basketball cheer squads. Last season, two boys were added to the roster. Now, this season, there are five boys ready to take the floor. Nick Behrendt, a junior on the varsity squad, told us what he’s most excited about this season. “I’m excited for our capabilities to be really good, we have so much potential with all the new guys to pull off some really complicated stunts and be an overall great team.” The varsity roster consists of Kendra Allen, Kennedey Bass, Kalei Bock, Ashley Crim, Madi Desher, Mikayla Eppert, Saydie Howard, Madi Johnson, Madi Neely, Erin Kinne, and Alyssa Kraft. The JV roster includes Ashley Furst, Hannah Eppert, Alexis Johnson, Mackenzie Mosher, and Madisyn Postma. Helping out on both varsity and JV is Nick Behrendt, Elijah Johnson, Zeek Pearson, Lantz Reed, and Colbey Wadsworth.
The varsity basketball squad took the floor on Tuesday, December 1st, for their first game of the season, and the varsity wrestling squad took to the mat on Saturday, December 5th, for their first meet of the season. Both basketball and wrestling cheer squads are vital for school spirit and help to keep the crowd pumped. The squads both hope to see big student sections at games and meets to help keep the school spirit alive.
