The Boone girls swim team had the experience of a lifetime this past Saturday at the state meet in Marshalltown. Boone juniors AnneMarie Devries, Erin Kokemiller, and Maddie Santi along with their Greene County teammate Haley Hall swam the medley relay and placed 18th. Kokemiller swam in the 100 breaststroke individually and placed 19th. For the girls, it wasn’t about the swimming itself, but experiencing the state meet with their teammates and friends.
Devries really cherished the opportunity, “The state swim meet was a surreal experience for all of us and it was one of the best days of my life!” said Devries, “It’s so much fun to know you have accomplished something you have dreamed about since you were little.”
Swimming on the big stage in front of that many people has to be nerve-wracking and the Boone girls handled it very well. Coach Chris Mann is very proud of his team.
“The girls didn’t have their best time, but they were about the same. We swam phenomenal to get into the state meet so it would have been very tough to put up the same time again,” said Mann.
The Toreadors had a very strong season, but they are expecting bigger and better things next year. Considering they are only losing two seniors, Amara Austin and Abbie Lee, the bar will be set high. Coach Mann says he has high expectations.
“The expectations for next year will definitely be do get in a couple relays and a couple individual swims so that we can expand on our state experience from this year.” said Mann.
The Boone girls capped off a great season and look for them to do big things next season.
