The Boone girls basketball team is 9-2 and has won 8 games in a row. The Newton Cardinals come to town and are looking to put up as fight against the red hot Toreadors. Boone is led by their height inside and young freshman guard Mady Danner. She uses her speed to push the tempo in transition and the rest of her teammates benefit from her presence on the court. Their winning streak is a product of their chemistry and collectiveness as a group. On the inside, sophomore Claire Sandvig is the leading scorer averaging 11.8 points per game and sends back 3 shots per game. Senior Rylee Claman is a good leader for this young group and she stretches the floor with her outside shooting ability. Another perk offensively is sophomore guard Caitlynne Shadle. She is extremely aggressive offensively and opens up shooters around the arc with her driving ability.
Defensively, Newton has multiple scoring threats. Senior Hannah Rhoads has attempted 53 three pointers and is sure to be firing against Boone. The Toreadors need to keep tabs on her and make sure to not let her catch and shoot. Senior Sydney Jenkins could hurt Boone from the free throw line. She constantly probes the paints and gets to the charity stripe. Sandvig needs to keep the Cardinals off the boards in order to give her team opportunities in transition.
Come out to the Kate Shelley Fieldhouse at 7:30 P.M. to support the Lady ‘Dors as they look to continue their historic season against the Newton Cardinals.
