Saturday, January 30th, the Boone High boys swim team took the big win in the North Central Conference championship. The teams they put a beating against were Decorah, Newton, Grinnell, Oskaloosa, Vinton, and Williamsburg.
Boone came away with 60 of their best times, six conference champions, a team conference championship, and conference coaching staff of the year.
The 400 meter freestyle relay with junior Nick Schroeder, senior Kevin Kiesel, senior Ethan Woodruff, and sophomore Cole Harper got a time of 3:24.95 and received the win of the race. In the 500 meter freestyle, senior Derek Hahn took the win with a time of 5:21.22. Hahn also was the champion in the 200 meter freestyle with a time of 1:56.38.
Coach Chris Man proudly said, ”We dropped some key time in our relays that are going to be crucial heading into the district meet next weekend at Fort Dodge. He posted top 8 times in the state in both his individual events. Derek won both of his events by a few seconds. He swam very well in each race. Kevin dropped a ton of time in his sprints. He will be one of our keys to success in the relays at districts. With a little more rest this week and shaving down I think our guys will be ready to drop even more time next weekend. We accomplished one goal of winning the conference meet, we have several goals left to accomplish.”
The boys take on districts on February 6 at Fort Dodge High school starting at twelve. The boys will swim against eight teams and hope to make it to state.
