The Boone Boys Varsity Basketball team was looking for their first win on Friday night against the Wildcats from Carlisle. After losses to Newton and Ballard, Boone had to defend their home court. Junior Ethan Lewis talked about the importance of getting a first win.
“It was a key win for our team and a real confidence booster,” said Lewis. “Right now it's all about confidence and believing we can win everytime we go out and play.”
The first quarter kicked off with a Carlisle three pointer immediately after the jump ball and Boone was already facing a 3 point deficit. The ‘Dors fired back with a 6-0 run to claim the lead. Everything was working offensively for Boone as they put up a season high 21 first quarter points, with Carlisle scoring 18.
The second quarter was crucial for Boone, as they stretched their lead out to 12 points. The defense picked up and transition opportunities led to baskets on the offensive end. The bench, led by sophomore Trevor Van Pelt and senior Maclane Moran, provided nice energy and a threat from outside the arc. The halftime score was 39-27 in favor of Boone.
The second half was much of the same for the Toreadors. Offensive firepower and efficient defense made this game practically no contest. The score after three quarters was 59-39 with Boone cruising. The fourth quarter was good experience for Boone’s young players and reserves. Sophomore Trey Smith and junior Lance Losh got good minutes down the stretch and that experience should pay dividends for the rest of the season. Lewis led Boone in scoring with 18 points. Sophomore Dresden Wilson pulled down seven rebounds in the contest. Senior Noah Schmitt led Carlisle 15 points. Boone got their first win on the season and they will be looking for many more victories this season. The final score was 74-55.
The Toreadors will be looking to build on this home victory and put a winning streak together. Come support Boone in their next home game on December 22nd versus Greene County.
