On January 5, the Boone girls basketball team will take on the Winterset Huskies. The team has been working hard going through their plays and increasing their intensity in practices to improve their overall stamina. The girls have also been working on their defensive pressure. They have been looking at what their opponents’ do on offense and defense to allow them to be as prepared as is possible.
So far this season, the girls have faced the challenge of helping on defense. They have found it hard to get the ball into the post so that a basket can be scored. Despite this, they have been doing walk throughs before each game and running drills as an effort to eliminate this flaw.
In the upcoming game at Winterset, the team will have the chance to see how their hard work has paid off. Junior Emma Rouse says, “A challenge for the Winterset game would be learning how they play, as well as our own team working to push the ball on offense more.” In agreement with this, sophomore Claire Sandvig says, “It will be a challenge to play at our level without dropping down. We need to keep our energy and communication up too so that the entire game can have high intensity.”
The girls have remained optimistic about their season despite some hard losses early on. Rouse also said, “I look forward to having a winning season and continuing to play well together as a team.” The girls face a challenge in the coming week to beat the Winterset Huskies. The game will be in Winterset at 6pm. Succeeding the girls game will be the boys game, also in Winterset at 7:30 pm. Make sure to come out and support Toreador basketball.
