On Friday, September 9th, The Boone football team braced the weather and took on the Iowa Falls-Alden Cadets. Coming off of a big win over Bondurant-Farrar, knocking off Iowa Falls-Alden would put them on the right track.
In the first quarter, The major play was a senior Tanner Schminke touchdown pass to junior Mason Hulse to put the Toreadors up 6-0. On the PAT, a bobbled snap resulted in a conversion through the air via Hulse. Boone was very successful protecting Schminke early on in the game. The defense rallied together and produced multiple stops in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Cadets got on the board with a 1 yard touchdown run. The Toreadors blocked the PAT making the score 8-6 in favor of Boone. The ground game got going as Schminke and senior Elijah Johnson ran the Toreadors down to the 1 yard line. Schminke busted through the defense for a touchdown making the score 15-6. That score remained at halftime.
In the third quarter, Boone’s defense maintained their energy and kept giving the ball back to the Toreador offense. Schminke lofted a dime over the middle to senior Kade Morain for a 23 yard touchdown. The score was 23-6 early in the 3rd.
Later in the game, Schminke ran in yet another rushing touchdown to blow the game wide open and secure the Toreador victory. The final score was 29-6 in favor of Boone.
This Friday, the Toreadors travel to Perry to take on the Bluejays. Kick off is at 7:30.
