As Scott Kiesel starts coaching his 8th year at Boone High School for girls track, he manages to snag the Girls Track Coach of the Year award for the second year in a row.
This year, marking his 30th year of coaching track, he has variety of workouts already planned for the upcoming season. Being a runner his whole life, he knows all the tactics needed for the Toreadors to run towards success.
At practices, they have a variety of workout routines depending on the weather and seasons. Since Kiesel works with the sprinters, hurdlers, and jumpers, all of his routines are different from the other coaches. For example, while training the sprinters, they run a lot of 300’s.
Their goal every year is to make it into as many events at the state meet as possible, as well as the conference meet. Last year, the Toreador girls managed to achieve their goal. “The group of girls we have have high standards to meet. We did very well last year, so these girls are motivated as well to achieve what they pursued to do last year. We have a lot of talent, and are prepared for the season to start,” Kiesel said. “The girls were ready in the summer.”
They had a great experience last year. When the girls were motivated all year around, it was very satisfying as a coach.
