On Tuesday, January 19, the Boone girls had their tenth consecutive win of the 2015-2016 season. The girls faced Newton at Boone High School. In the first quarter of the game, Boone had a strong defense holding Newton to two points, while still going hard on offense, scoring 13 points. During the second quarter, Newton snuck in five extra points, but Boone countered with 14 of their own, bringing the halftime score to 27-7, Boone holding a strong lead.
In the third quarter, Newton showed some new energy and took 11 points, while Boone scored only nine. However, Boone came back strong in the fourth quarter, scoring 14 points, while Newton was held to nine. The final score of the game was 50-27. Sophomore Claire Sandvig was on her game with 12 rebounds and 16 points, tying for most points scored in the game by an individual. Freshman Madelyn Danner also scored 16 points. Together, the two scored over half of the total points for the game.
The girls record so far this season is 11 wins and only two losses. Coach Jim Mcpartland says, “It has been a very good season so far. The girls are working hard and trying to improve everyday. Our success is attributed to their hard work and unselfishness." Their hard work and persistence has lead the girls to have one of the best seasons in years. The girls only have six games remaining in their season. Their next game will be Friday, January 22, 6:00pm at Ballard High School.
