On Friday, November 6th, senior diver Kennedey Bass ended her storied career at Boone High School as she attended the state diving competition for the fourth time. Heading into the competition Bass was seeded as the 8th ranked diver. After the state competition was over Bass placed 9th overall.
When asked about her performance in state, Bass responded with the following quote, ”I feel that state went well there’s always room for improvement, but I did the best I could on Friday and ended with a solid dive. Following that statement Bass went on to say that she enjoyed competing in state on her senior year because it was a way to go out on a bang.
Bass has been able to represent the Toreadors in all four years of her diving career at the high school. When asked about how it felt to represent Boone High School in the state diving competition, Bass gave the following statement, “Competing for Boone has always been fun. Although I had always had at least one if not two teammates travel with me to state. So this year was a bit different going by myself.”
Bass wasn’t the only who had comments about her performance at state. High school diving coach Darci Newcomb feels like Bass accomplished both her goals at the end of state. “Her goal was to make the final cut to 16 divers and then to place in the top 10. She succeeded in reaching both of these goals. Her last dive was probably the best one she had done all year. So she definitely ended her season on a positive note.”
All throughout her high school career Bass has performed astoundingly with her skills earning her the ability to compete in state all of her four years. This year was Bass’ final year of competing in diving for the Toreadors and is now the end of an incredible career.
