The Boone Girls Swimming team fell to the Newton Aquagirls on Senior Night by a score of 53-133.
The night began with the 200 yard freestyle relay race. The team was made up of Sophomores Anne Marie DeVries, Madelynn Santi, Erin Kokemiller, and Senior Kate Kokemiller. Boone finished in second place with a time of 1:47.74. Later on in the 100 yard backstroke, Madelynn Santi’s time was 1:07.78, which was good enough for second place. Maddie Schroeder filled Kokemiller’s shoes in the 100 yard breaststroke, finishing in fourth place with a time of 1:22.17. Tina Gute and Katelyn Mehlhaus followed closely behind in fifth and sixth place. The Toreadors also received fourth place honors in the 400 yard freestyle relay.
Senior swimmer Kate Kokemiller and Senior divers Haiden Jennings, Michaela Robertson, and Maren Lafollette all competed in their last home meet of their high school careers. They all made large contributions to the swimming and diving program and have set good examples for the underclassmen.
Only two meets remain until Regionals, at Johnston-Summit Middle School on November 1st. Boone’s 4x100 has a strong chance of qualifying for State, and the girls will be working hard up until then.
