This Friday the Boone Toreadors (1-5) took on the Algona Bulldogs (5-1) with what seemed as a must win game for the Toreadors. Coming off a loss from Carroll, Boone was looking to rejuvenate their confidence, while Algona was coming fresh off crushing Perry 52-14.
Boone started off hot, stopping a very proficient Bulldog offense, and forcing a punt. Junior quarterback Tanner Schminke drove the Toreador offense across the field and found wide receiver sophomore John Herrick in the back of the endzone for a touchdown. The momentum continued leading to a 21-0 lead at halftime.
The Bulldogs bashed right back with Senior Tomah Leamh returning the opening kick 92 yards for the score, making it 21-7, Boone leading. Boone’s aerial offense attacked once again scoring, this time Schminke connected with senior wide receiver Drew Wilber, making the score 28-7.
But the Bulldogs came back with the ground and pound game when senior running back Noah Arrowood rushed for two touchdowns in the second half, making it 28-21 with five minutes left in a thrilling game.
Boone put the cherry on top when Schminke rushed for one last touchdown, making the final score 35-21, giving the Toreadors their second win on senior night. Boone continues their season next week against the Greene County Rams.
