After a successful campaign last season, the Toreador Girls basketball team graduated three seniors, all of whom were in the starting lineup. Mariah McPartland, Serena Sandvig, and Carrie Overland accounted for over 60% of Boone’s offense, which means that several girls will have to rise to the occasion and fill those holes.
Sophomore, Caitlynne Shadle, will be the team’s leading returning scorer after having an efficient freshman year.
“We really want to work hard to bring a lot of the energy to the court like they did. They added a lot of competitiveness and positivity, and we’d like to follow in their footsteps,” says Shadle.
Senior Rylee Claman has been putting in a lot of work in the off-season, and would like to see the ‘Dors improve in multiple areas.
“We would like to have a winning season and improve statistically from last year. Like any other team, the State Tournament is another goal of ours,” says Claman.
Head coach Jim McPartland sees a lot of talent and potential in some of his young players.
“It’s all about the process, and if our girls embrace every opportunity we get in practice and in games, we will be just fine,” says coach McPartland.
Catch the Toreador girls in action on November 23rd in their season opening against Nevada. Following that, they will play at home for the first time on December 4th against the Ballard Bombers, in a boys and girls doubleheader.
