Boone’s varsity volleyball team (1-2) went up against the Winterset Huskies (3-0) at Winterset High School on September 10. Coming off of a devastating loss against Carroll, Boone looked to redeem themselves. But they came up short, losing three sets to two.
Even though Boone lost the match, they were strong in mental strength and heart according to Assistant Coach Hansen. Hansen was pleased with the team's total performance of the game, as they battled to stay with Winterset and made it go the distance.
The Toreadors improved their mental toughness from the Carroll match. In the fourth set, Winterset had a very long rally, but Boone did not give up. When they got the serve back, Boone decided to end it.
They came back and won the fourth set at 18-25. The score was always close with the first set being Winterset 25 and Boone 20. Second set was 21-25, third set was 25-18, then the last set was 15-13.
Hansen says, “ The final score is never totally what you want it to be.” Even though Boone lost, they still had spirit and are ready to take on the next competition.
The crowd at Winterset was huge for both teams as Boone had a great turn out with JV and Freshmen cheering as loud as they could for their teammates. “The crowd was incredible. We need to continue that. It was a huge motivator,” Hansen commented.
